Kings Athletic Facilities Project

Updated August 23rd. . . .The track now circles the field, the visitor's stands are in place, and finishing touches are being completed on the grandstand and walkup area. Come to the open house on August 28th and see for yourself!

Updated July 7, 2005 -- Let's play football! The field is practically complete and the home side aluminum grandstands have been delivered. "This is a major milestone because the home side grandstand is constructed over and around the new stadium building. The home side grandstands will be constructed first, then the visitor's side will be erected. The new stadium building is now dried-in by having the exterior masonry walls and membrane roof complete. The plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems for the new building are all currently underway. ~ Bradley Adams

Galbreath Field is no more. The Kings Knights will return to the rebuilt and renamed Kings Stadium in the fall of 2005. The first home game is vs. the Loveland Tigers in Week 3. Architected by Voorhis, Slone, Welsh, Crossland - Architects, the Kings Athletic Facilities project is divided into a couple of phases. Phase 1 includes the construction of the synthetic turf football / soccer field, synthetic all-weather track, baseball field and softball field. This work was bid in October and is being done by Danis Building Construction Company.

The lead architect is local resident Bradley Adams, who, along with VSWC, has worked on all of Mason's schools and their athletic facilities, including the Community Center. "We have also completed the renovation of Shea Stadium for the Norwood City School District and the new synthetic turf soccer field for Mason," Adams said.

Phase two work includes the new stadium building (includes restrooms, locker rooms and concessions) aluminum grandstands on the home and visitor side, pressbox, softball dugouts, stadium plaza, entry gate and ticket booths. This work is divided into five contracts; Carrera Construction (general contractor), Gil Ruehl Mechanical (plumbing contractor), EDI, Inc. (hvac contractor), G/C Contracting (electrical contractor), Dalmatian Fire (fire protection contractor) and Elrod Corporation (aluminum grandstand contractor).

The priority, according to Adams, is to complete the entire project on time and within budget. The stadium, track and football field will be ready to use this fall. The baseball field and softball field will be complete, but the fields are natural grass which will need an entire growing season before ready for use. The football field is a synthetic infill turf system that, once installed, can be played on immediately. "It is my understanding that the first event on the new field will be the football game on September 9th versus Loveland."

The generic name of the field to be layed is synthetic infill turf. The synthetic infill turf that is to be installed at the Kings is called 24/7SR and is made and installed by the Motz Group.

"The weather this winter has put the Phase 1 contractor behind schedule," said Adams. "We need a dry spring to avoid any weather related delays."
